Kokomo Uncovered: We Care Trim-A-Tree Festival Brings Holiday Magic to Markland Mall

One of Kokomo's most beloved holiday traditions is back! The We Care Trim-A-Tree Festival has returned to Markland Mall, bringing dozens of beautifully decorated Christmas trees, plenty of holiday cheer, and an opportunity for the community to come together for a great cause.

What started in 1993 with just 19 decorated Christmas trees has grown into one of Kokomo's most anticipated holiday events, featuring approximately 80 trees decorated by local businesses, organizations, families, and volunteers.

Each tree features its own unique theme, decorations, and personality. From traditional Christmas displays to elaborate, one-of-a-kind creations, the festival showcases the creativity and generosity of the Kokomo community.

But these trees are about much more than holiday decorations.

Christmas Trees for a Cause

The We Care Trim-A-Tree Festival serves as an annual fundraiser supporting We Care's mission of helping local organizations and individuals in need throughout the community.

While the trees are on display at Markland Mall, visitors can explore the festive creations and vote for their favorites by making monetary donations. The tree that collects the most money through voting earns the People's Choice Award.

At the conclusion of the festival, the decorated Christmas trees are auctioned off to the highest bidders, giving attendees the opportunity to take home a beautifully decorated tree while supporting an important local cause.

And the impact is impressive!

In 2025 alone, the Trim-A-Tree auction raised more than $139,000, contributing to the nearly $2 million the festival has raised throughout its history.

A Community Tradition Built on Generosity

One of the most remarkable aspects of the Trim-A-Tree Festival is the incredible amount of community involvement that makes it possible.

Each year, approximately 1,000 volunteers contribute their time and talents to bringing the festival to life.

From the businesses and organizations that decorate the trees to the volunteers who coordinate the displays and organize the auction, the festival represents a community-wide effort to make a difference during the holiday season.

As a volunteer-run organization, We Care relies on the generosity and dedication of local residents to continue supporting those who need it most.
