Rewind Time On Buckeye: Nostalgia Lives at Boomstick Video
Get Your VHS Player Ready: New Retro VHS and DVD Rental Store Opens on Buckeye
Rewind the clock and step into a simpler time at Boomstick Video, Buckeye Street’s retro gem where movie nights still begin with a trip to the video store. Lined with shelves of VHS tapes and DVDs, Boomstick isn’t just a rental store—it’s a full-on nostalgia trip for anyone who misses the thrill of browsing aisles, reading back covers, and picking the perfect flick for the weekend. In an age of streaming, this old-school video haven brings back the magic of physical media, community, and cinematic classics.
As I walked into Boomstick Video, I instantly got hit with nostalgia as I saw rows of VHS tapes and DVDs that I grew up watching and that is exactly what Boomstick Video is aiming for! “We focus on providing a representative of cultural history and nostalgia that you’re not going to find anywhere else.” said owner Mike Kostrewa. “We are a retro video store paying homage to the 1980s and 1990s offering physical media for rent and for sale.”
With the decor and retro atmosphere, I felt like I was a kid again with my mother at Family Video (RIP). There is something special about how we used to get movies. Go out and rent a movie, have a day or two to watch it, we all know how it used to be. In the day of convenience with instant streaming, it is awesome to see a place like Boomstick Video open.
Another thing about Boomstick Video, they offer what they call ‘Saturday Rewind’. Every Saturday morning, they have retro Saturday morning cartoons playing in the back room, with the biggest beanbag I’ve seen.
Overall, I am excited about this new business that we can welcome to downtown Kokomo! Their goal is even more admirable. “Physical media is a dying breed and we are on a mission to preserve it. We believe that dependence on streaming services will ultimately kill the life and legacy of things such as movie theaters, independent filmmakers, and of course… the independent video store.” said owner Mike Kostrewa. “We encourage everyone in Howard county to join us on this journey of preserving physical media!”
