Kokomo Celebrates America's 250th Birthday with Community-Wide Fourth of July Event
America is turning 250 years old, and Kokomo is celebrating in a big way.
On Saturday, July 4, the community is invited to spend the day celebrating our nation's semiquincentennial with a lineup of family-friendly events happening from morning through the evening. From free ice cream and a downtown block party to a patriotic community walk, baseball, and a fireworks finale, there are plenty of ways to spend Independence Day right here in Kokomo.
The celebration begins at the historic Seiberling Mansion, where families can stop by for a free Ice Cream Social from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guests are invited to cool off with complimentary ice cream, explore one of Kokomo's most iconic landmarks, and enjoy a classic Fourth of July tradition with family and friends.
As the afternoon gets underway, head downtown for Stars, Stripes & Summer Nights, a patriotic block party taking place from 1 to 4 p.m. around the Howard County Courthouse Square. The event will feature local vendors, artists, community organizations, shopping, activities, and more, while many downtown businesses and restaurants will be open to welcome visitors throughout the afternoon.
The patriotic spirit continues at 4 p.m. with the America 250 Celebration Walk. Participants will gather near First Farmers Bank & Trust at the corner of Sycamore and Main streets before making their way to Kokomo Municipal Stadium. The walk will include local veterans, veterans from the Kokomo Police and Fire Departments, residents of Jackson Street Commons, and the Kokomo Park Band. Whether you choose to walk alongside them or simply cheer from the sidelines, it's a meaningful opportunity to honor those who have served while celebrating our country's milestone birthday.
Once everyone arrives at the stadium, the celebration shifts to America's favorite pastime. The Kokomo Creek Chubs will host a special Fourth of July home game beginning at 6:20 p.m. Pregame festivities will include a tribute to local veterans and a giant American flag presentation before the first pitch. Tickets are required for the game and may be purchased in advance or at the stadium.
After the final out, all eyes will turn to the sky as Kokomo's Fourth of July celebration concludes with a spectacular fireworks show over Kokomo Municipal Stadium. Community members who aren't attending the game can still enjoy the fireworks by entering the stadium beginning no earlier than 9:45 p.m.
Whether you're looking for a fun afternoon with the family, a chance to support local businesses, an opportunity to honor veterans, or simply the perfect place to watch fireworks, Kokomo's America 250 celebration has something for everyone.
