Graveside Stories: Kokomo’s Cemetery Walk Brings History to Life

Do you enjoy history and want to make the most out of this beautiful Fall season? While apple orchards and pumpkin patches are popular autumn traditions, there’s one unique local event that offers something a little different… a journey through Kokomo’s past.

This October, the Howard County Historical Society invites you to experience the annual Historic Cemetery Walk at Crown Point Cemetery. During this immersive event, costumed interpreters step back in time to share the stories of some of Kokomo’s most influential figures. It’s a chance to learn about the men and women who helped shape our community while standing among the very headstones that mark their lives.

A History Lesson Brought to Life

Unlike a traditional history lecture, the Cemetery Walk blends education with theatrical storytelling. Guides will lead groups through Crown Point Cemetery, stopping at selected gravesites where actors and actresses portray individuals buried there or sometimes people closely connected to them.

Each stop along the way offers a first-person look into the lives of Howard County residents from the 1800s and early 1900s. Interpreters in period clothing bring these stories to life, while the natural backdrop of Crown Point Cemetery in the fall adds an authentic and thoughtful atmosphere.

The result? A living history performance that not only entertains but also deepens your appreciation for the people who built Kokomo’s foundation.
