Kokomo Post 6 Baseball Tryouts Set For Aug. 22
Mother Nature has not made it easy for American Legion Kokomo Post 6. Weeks of rain across the Midwest have forced the annual tryouts for the Post 6 baseball team to be postponed multiple times.
Now, the team finally appears to have a clear path to the field. Kokomo Post 6 will host tryouts for its 2027 season at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Highland Park, giving players an opportunity to compete for a spot on next summer’s roster.
American Legion Post 6 baseball is part of the American Legion Baseball program, giving local athletes an opportunity to continue playing competitive baseball during the summer. The program offers two teams — a 17U junior team and a 19U senior team — and is open to players from Howard County and surrounding counties.
One of the program’s biggest benefits is providing athletes with an affordable opportunity to play against quality competition throughout the summer. The senior team also has the opportunity to compete in the American Legion Baseball postseason, with the ultimate goal of reaching the American Legion World Series, which is broadcast on ESPN.
The program can also provide players with opportunities to continue competing after the American Legion season. Several players from this summer’s Post 6 senior team joined the Kokomo Creek Chubs at the conclusion of their Post 6 season.
Nate Hemmerich returns as the head coach of the senior team and program director for Kokomo Post 6. Hemmerich brings both playing and coaching experience to the program, giving him a strong understanding of what it takes to develop players and compete at a high level.
A 2018 graduate of Kokomo High School, Hemmerich continued his playing career at Earlham College before transitioning into coaching. He currently serves as an assistant baseball coach at Western High School while continuing his work with Post 6.
Kokomo Post 6 will hold tryouts for its 2027 teams at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at CFD Investments Stadium at Highland Park. Tryouts for both the 17U and 19U teams will take place on the same day, giving local players an opportunity to compete for a spot in the program.
The historic Highland Park facility, which serves as Post 6’s home field, originally opened in 1955 as a minor league baseball stadium. The ballpark provides a fitting setting for players looking to continue their baseball careers with Post 6.
For local baseball players looking for an opportunity to compete, develop and play quality competition during the summer, Kokomo Post 6 offers a chance to be part of a program with a long history in the community. With tryouts for both the 17U and 19U teams set for Saturday, Aug. 1, players interested in joining the program are encouraged to attend and take their shot at earning a spot on the roster.
