Mintage Hair & Makeup: Not Your Average Beauty Service
Kokomo Uncovered | Mintage Hair & Makeup 💁♀️💄
I didn’t expect to learn so much about myself by sitting in a chair surrounded by color swatches. But that’s exactly what happened when I visited Mintage Hair & Makeup, Kokomo’s new beauty experience.
Mintage is a partnership between Sheila Lawson, owner of Lefty Lucy, and Brittany Murphy, owner of B. Lynn Hair Co. Both women are located inside the Salon Suites, and together they’ve created something that’s all about confidence, individuality, and authenticity.
At first, I thought it was just about figuring out which colors looked better on me — warm or cool, silver or gold. I expected the stuff you see on TikTok, and I expected to smile politely and see no differences in the mirror. But as Sheila and Brittany started holding different fabrics up to my face, something shifted. They weren’t just matching colors to skin tones; they were reading energy, personality, and confidence.
Watching the two of them work together was honestly the best part. Sheila brings this artistic intuition, and Brittany has such a calming, confident presence. They move around each other effortlessly, finishing each other’s thoughts, pointing out subtle things I would’ve missed. At first, the differences between shades felt so small. But once they explained it, I could see what they meant. The right colors didn’t just look good; they made me feel like myself.
They spent real time testing colors that made me look and feel the most comfortable and vibrant in my own skin. They gave me tips on what jewelry tones complement my features best and how to evolve my current wardrobe by weaving in shades that bring out my natural glow. Most importantly, they talked about how to let the truest version of myself shine—whether that’s during a big event or an ordinary day.
By the end, I had a personalized color guide and a better understanding of what makes me feel powerful and beautiful. It wasn’t about changing how I look; it was about uncovering what’s already there.
And, of course, this wouldn’t be a Kokomo Uncovered story without giving a little credit to our friends at Community First Bank of Indiana, who make these local spotlights possible. It might seem un-bank-like for a bank to back a story about color palettes and lipstick tones, but that’s the thing about Community First. They’re all about helping people and small businesses grow in their own unique ways.
Mintage isn’t just a salon. It’s a celebration of individuality. They also host group color sessions, events, and bridal styling, creating spaces where people can laugh, learn, and walk away with a little more confidence than they came in with.
If you’ve ever wanted to know which colors truly bring out your best self — or if you just want to feel seen and celebrated —Mintage is absolutely worth the visit.
