Target’s Car Seat Trade-In Event Returns Sept. 20: Here’s What Kokomo Parents Need to Know
If you have an old, expired or outgrown car seat taking up space in the garage, Target is giving you a reason to finally get rid of it.
Target’s popular Car Seat Trade-In event returns this month, giving Kokomo-area families an opportunity to recycle an old car seat while earning a discount toward new baby gear.
The 2026 fall event runs Sept. 20 through Oct. 3 at participating Target stores. Guests can bring in an old car seat and receive a 20% off Target Circle bonus to use toward a qualifying new baby gear purchase.
How the Car Seat Trade-In Works
According to Target, participating is pretty simple.
Guests can bring their old car seat to a participating Target location and place it in the store’s designated collection box. From there, shoppers scan the barcode located on the box using the Target app and add the 20% discount to their Target Circle account.
The bonus will then appear in the shopper’s Wallet in the Target app and can be used twice before it expires Oct. 17. Target also says the bonus can be combined with other eligible offers for additional savings.
The trade-in event accepts any old car seat at participating stores.
More Than 3.8 Million Car Seats Recycled
This year marks the 10th year for Target’s Car Seat Trade-In program.
Since its launch, Target says more than 3.8 million car seats have been recycled through the program, keeping more than 63.7 million pounds of materials out of landfills.
Those recycled materials have also been given a second life. According to Target, materials recovered through the program have been transformed into more than 2 million Brightroom and Room Essentials products.
Additional Baby Deals Are Coming, Too
Parents looking to stock up may want to keep an eye on Target’s baby department throughout the event.
Target has announced several additional promotions scheduled during the trade-in period, including:
Spend $80, get a $20 Target GiftCard on diapers and wipes
Buy one, get one 50% off select on-the-go accessories
25% off Aveeno and Johnson’s Baby toiletries

Buy one, get one 50% off toddler and baby clothing
Up to 30% off select baby toys

Target is also highlighting several newer additions to its baby selection, including Olivia Culpo’s Target-exclusive Picolette line, refreshed Cloud Island diaper bags, baby gear from UPPAbaby and Mockingbird and several Target-exclusive organic feeding products.
So, Kokomo parents: if there’s an old car seat collecting dust in your basement, garage or storage closet, you have from Sept. 20 through Oct. 3 to trade it in, recycle it and score some savings in the process.
