The Kokomo Post 6 senior baseball team opened its 2025 season in style, hosting Speedway Post 500 at the scenic CFD Investments Stadium at Highland Park. The former minor league ballpark served as a fitting stage for an impressive 8-1 victory, powered by a dominant pitching performance and a late offensive surge.

Micah Rogers took the mound for Kokomo and quickly settled in. After allowing the leadoff batter to reach on an error, Rogers struck out the next two hitters. Speedway managed to scratch across a run in the inning, but it would be its only one of the night.

Kokomo responded in the bottom of the second, tying the game 1-1 when Perry Kochensparger came around to score.

The game remained tied through five innings, with Rogers firmly in control. He kept Speedway off balance all night, racking up strikeouts and commanding the zone. Meanwhile, Speedway’s pitching struggled to find the plate. Its staff issued 14 walks—eight of which came in the bottom of the sixth.

That sixth inning proved to be the turning point. Kokomo capitalized on the free passes, exploding for seven runs to take an 8-1 lead and put the game out of reach.

Rogers exited after six dominant innings, finishing with 11 strikeouts, two walks and just one run allowed.

Post 6 closed the door in the seventh. The first Speedway batter struck out, the second flew out to shallow center, and the third went down swinging to end the game.

Kokomo Post 6 starts the season with a statement win and will look to build on that momentum as the summer unfolds.
