Howard County Baseball Teams Gear Up for Sectional Runs

Sectional time is here, and the postseason buzz is building across Indiana. In and around Howard

County, baseball teams are set to begin their quest for a sectional championship. From conference champions to breakout contenders, each squad enters with its own story, momentum, and motivation.

With high-level matchups, local rivalries, and a shot at postseason glory on the line, the next few weeks promise intense competition and unforgettable moments. Here’s a full look at the sectionals featuring Howard County teams, and what to expect as tournament play begins.


4A Sectional 7

Host: Kokomo Municipal Stadium

Sectional 7 features a strong field with Kokomo (17-10) set to host Harrison (West Lafayette) (17-7), Lafayette Jefferson (18-11), and McCutcheon (15-11).

Kokomo enters as one of the hottest teams in the group and will look to ride home-field advantage to a sectional title. Lafayette Jeff and Harrison bring well-rounded rosters capable of making a deep run, while McCutcheon has the potential to shake things up.

With every team in the bracket entering with at least 15 wins, this sectional stands out as one of the most competitive in Class 4A. Expect tightly contested matchups and a high level of play as these teams battle for the title in downtown Kokomo.

3A Sectional 23

Host: Logansport

Sectional 23 features a deep and talented field with 3A No. 8 Western (23-4), Northwestern (18-7), Logansport (15-13), Twin Lakes (18-9), West Lafayette (11-12), Maconaquah (15-9), and Peru (14-10).

Western and Northwestern headline the bracket. The Panthers recorded their fifth 20-win season, while Northwestern captured its first conference title since 2008. Host Logansport will look to protect its home field and make a deep postseason run.

Twin Lakes enters with one of the best records in the field, while West Lafayette, Maconaquah, and Peru all have the pieces to make a push.

With strong records across the board and multiple teams capable of making a run, this sectional promises close games, possible upsets, and exciting postseason softball in Logansport.

2A Sectional 38

Host: Oak Hill

Sectional 38 features a strong field with 2A No. 5 Eastern (24-5), 2A No. 8 Rochester (19-7), Wabash (11-14), Manchester (12-12), Oak Hill (17-9), and Lewis Cass (12-13).

Eastern enters with momentum after winning the Hoosier Heartland Conference and looks to keep a special season alive. Rochester is another top-10 team in Class 2A and poses a serious threat to claim the title. Host Oak Hill will look to defend its home turf at one of the top high school baseball facilities in the area.

Wabash, Manchester, and Lewis Cass round out a competitive field, each capable of shaking things up.

With multiple ranked teams and high-level talent across the board, this sectional promises tightly contested matchups and postseason drama in Converse.

2A Sectional 39

Host: Lapel

Sectional 39 features a six-team field with 2A No. 1 Lapel (25-2), Tipton (7-15), Taylor (1-19), Frankton (13-10), Sheridan (9-13), and Elwood (3-25).

Lapel enters as the top-ranked team in Class 2A and one of the favorites to capture the state title. The Bulldogs are also hosting, though their talent alone makes them the clear favorite in this sectional. Frankton joins Lapel as the only other team in the field with a winning record.

Taylor opens the tournament against rival Tipton, looking to play spoiler despite a tough season. Sheridan and Elwood round out the bracket, hoping to pull off surprises and extend their postseason.

With Lapel leading the way and the rest of the field looking to upset the top dog, this sectional sets the stage for a compelling run to the championship.
