Howard County Basketball: Feb. 27 Preview and Predictions
The regular season wraps up this week for Howard County basketball, with Kokomo and Eastern playing their final games before the postseason. Both teams will look to finish strong, building momentum and confidence as they head into tournament play.
With Senior Nights and conference positioning adding extra stakes, fans can expect competitive games and standout performances as the county teams close out the regular season.
Huntington North (13-8) vs Kokomo (16-6)
Kokomo fell short in its bid for an undefeated North Central Conference season, dropping its final league game last week. Despite that setback, the Wildkats have won eight of their last nine contests and will look to close the regular season on a positive note against former NCC foe Huntington North.
Huntington North enters the matchup having lost four of its last six games. The Vikings are led by junior Titus Schultz, who averages 15.4 points per game, and senior Dalton Husband, who contributes 13.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per contest.
Kokomo has faced a slightly tougher schedule this season, as its opponents own a .512 winning percentage compared to .470 for Huntington North’s opponents. That experience could be important in what projects to be a competitive game, with the Wildkats aiming to build momentum heading into the postseason.
Winner: Kokomo
Eastern (Greentown) (14-8) vs Carroll (Flora) (9-12)
Eastern enters the final game of the regular season coming off a late collapse that resulted in a 53–52 loss to Madison-Grant. Despite the setback, the Comets have won 11 of their last 13 games and will look to finish the regular season on a strong note during their trip to Flora.
Carroll (Flora) enters the matchup having won four of its last six contests. The Cougars are in the midst of their best stretch of the season and are aiming to pass Eastern in the Hoosier Heartland Conference standings.
Indiana All-Star candidate Colton Lindsay has been a scoring force for Eastern. His ability to score at all three levels while staying within the flow of the offense has provided a significant boost for the Comets. Carroll’s defense has been solid down the stretch, but it will be challenged by Eastern’s offense.
Winner: Eastern
As the regular season comes to a close, two county teams have one final opportunity to sharpen their form and build momentum before the postseason begins. Senior leadership, defensive intensity and late-game execution will all be under the microscope, as these final minutes can often set the tone for what follows in tournament play. With pride, positioning and confidence on the line, expect a competitive finish as each team looks to carry positive energy into the next phase of the season.
