Now, let’s dive into this week’s games.
Terre Haute South vs Kokomo
Records: Terre Haute South 0-1 | Kokomo 0-1
Kokomo’s season didn’t get off to the start the team had hoped for. Last week’s blowout loss was tough, and injuries continue to impact the squad as they prepare for Terre Haute South’s visit. Like the Wildkats, the Braves opened the season 0-1, both having faced tough opponents that exposed weaknesses. Friday’s matchup should be more competitive, but Kokomo’s injury concerns could prove difficult to overcome in their second game of the year.
Winner: Terre Haute South
Western vs North Montgomery
Records: Western 0-1 | North Montgomery 0-1
Western’s losing streak reached 13 games after Indian Creek scored a late go-ahead touchdown. The Panthers’ determination could help them rebound on the road against North Montgomery. The Chargers opened their season with a 25-point loss to Twin Lakes, giving up 238 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns, a weakness Western’s backfield can exploit. After last week’s tough loss, Western is expected to bounce back and pick up a much-needed road win.
Fun fact: The last time these programs met was in the 1988 sectional championship, a game Western won.
Winner: Western
2A #14 Eastern (Greentown) vs Northwestern
Records: Eastern 1-0 | Northwestern 0-1
The biggest game of the week features a heated county rivalry as Northwestern and Eastern face off. Both teams know each other well, adding extra buzz to the matchup. The Tigers jumped out to a 21-point lead against Manchester in Week 1 but couldn’t hold on, losing 33-21. Eastern, meanwhile, rallied late to beat Oak Hill and is riding momentum into this matchup. The Comets bring a veteran, experienced roster to Friday’s game, giving them an edge in key moments.
Winner: Eastern
Greenwood Christian vs 1A #14 Taylor
Records: Greenwood Christian 0-1 | Taylor 1-0
Taylor opened the 2025 season with a dominant 64 0 win, a total team effort that sets the tone for Friday’s matchup with Greenwood Christian. The Cougars are coming off a three point loss to Sheridan and gave up 376 rushing yards last week, a weakness the Titans can exploit. Expect the Titans to take advantage and pick up another big win on Senior Night.
Winner: Taylor
Week two in Howard County is set to deliver more Friday night excitement. Rivalries are heating up, and every game could have a big impact on the standings.
