Kokomo Uncovered | Sunspot Natural Market 🌻

Welcome back to another article for Kokomo Uncovered, where we showcase something unique, special, or brand new in Kokomo—thanks to our incredible friends and partners at Community First Bank of Indiana. You might be thinking, “Why is a bank hyping up a local wellness store?” Well, that’s because local businesses that help people be their healthiest are kind of their thing. Pretty un-bank-like, right? And obviously, it’s our thing too! This Kokomo Uncovered is showcasing Sunspot Natural Market!

If you haven’t heard about Sunspot Natural Market already, boy, are you in for a treat! Founded in 1977, Sunspot has been serving Howard County, ensuring shoppers have access to healthy and natural goods. The owner, Joan Johnson, was inspired by her grandfather, who had opened a gourmet-health grocery store in Ohio when he immigrated from Sicily. In 1998, the chance came to acquire a spacious two-story building at 3717 S Reed Road (931 S) in Kokomo — the perfect home for all their departments under one roof. Sunspot continues to thrive there today, proudly remaining a local, family-owned business spanning three generations!

Now that you got your history lesson, where do I even start? Sunspot has it all! When you first walk in, you are met with my personal favorite area, all of their olfactory goodies. They have pieces of palo santo, bundles of sage, many different incense cones, and that’s just the start! They also offer many essential oils, resins, and other fragrance-related items. Right near this area are all of the great jewelry, stones, and other things to protect the energy around you.

As you move on to the produce area, they offer plenty of fruits and veggies that are all from local farms, ranging from fresh pears to lion’s mane mushrooms. In this area, you can also get all sorts of trail mixes, and self-bag yourself whatever you need from a plethora of spices and seasonings. As you move to the cooled section, you can choose from a wide range of kombucha, protein shakes, sodas, and plenty of food that they make in-house. Sunspot sells their own hand-made wraps, pasta, and chicken salads, parfaits, and more! Along with all of this, they still have a large frozen section and several aisles of boxed goods, sugar alternatives, jams, cooking oils, you name it. There is so, so much at Sunspot!

To finish this blog, they also offer probably any vitamin or supplement you could think of. This store is truly wonderful if you are a health-conscious person, or just want to shop for things with local in mind. Sunspot is truly one of Kokomo’s best gems.
