Woolly Yak Ranch & Winery: Where Exotic Animals Meet Exotic Wines

🐑 Who Knew You Could Meet Exotic Animals & Taste Exotic Wine Near Kokomo?! 🐂

Welcome back to another article for Kokomo Uncovered, where we showcase something unique, special, or brand new in Kokomo—thanks to our incredible friends and partners at Community First Bank of Indiana. You might be thinking, “Why is a bank hyping up a local ranch and winery?” Well, that’s because supporting local is kind of their thing—pretty un-bank-like, right? And obviously, it’s our thing too! This Kokomo Uncovered is showcasing the exotic animals and wine at Woolly Yak Ranch & Winery!

About 30 minutes south of Kokomo is a unique hidden gem, called Woolly Yak Ranch & Winery. As you can tell by the name, you can expect cute animals that have plenty of wool, and wines that are made with ingredients grown there, and that’s not all!

First, let’s talk about the land. The first thing you will notice is the beautiful historic home on the ranch. Built in the 1800s, the house still looks charming as ever. The ranch also has plenty of room for families to enjoy the outdoors and take a break from the daily grind. They also have a vast amount of space dedicated to their various produce. Their lavender plants represent many different varieties, and are harvested for essential oils, lavender water, sachets, and bouquets. Their orchards consist of pecans, pawpaws, and persimmons! They grow 13 different varieties of pecans, which are all native to Indiana. When it comes to persimmons, they have different varieties that all offer unique flavors. They also have 27 varieties of pawpaws, which are native to Indiana and grow the largest edible fruit that is native to North America!

Now, let’s talk about the wine! They use what they grow to make interesting and unique wine flavors. Their pawpaw wine is something we believe everyone needs to try. They also have raspberry jalapeño wine and other wines like blueberry lemonade or a classic pinot noir. They even offer food from their food truck on select dates and during events!

Last but not least, the cute animals! They have beautiful yaks from Nepal, and you can feed them by hand. If the yaks weren’t woolly enough, they also have the most adorable sheep that frolic around when being fed. *Just a note that it is not a petting zoo, but there are opportunities to get close and even feed the animals. They are also home to purple martin birds! These wonderful creatures are long-distance migrants that travel north to breed primarily in the Eastern United States. Sadly, they typically leave towards the end of July.

Well, there you have it! If you have ever wanted a place where you can try great food and wine, while visiting stunning orchards and seeing the cutest animals, now you know that you HAVE to visit Woolly Yak Ranch & Winery! If you are interested in any of their events, click here!
