This week’s Kokomo Post Sports Game of the Week took us to a unique venue buzzing with national championship energy — Championship Park.

Typically known for hosting youth baseball events, the park was transformed into a softball haven as it welcomed teams from across the country for the Alliance Fast-pitch Championship Series (AFCS) 16U Tier III division. Eight diamonds were in full use, with baseball fields converted into softball-ready diamonds using temporary fences to accommodate the tournament setup.

Throughout the day, teams battled under the summer sun in the City of Firsts, all with their sights set on one goal: securing a spot in the Elite Eight. Upon advancing, each player was handed an official AFCS Elite Eight hat — a tangible reward for their grit and performance on the field.

The action didn’t disappoint. Home runs sent fans into a frenzy, emotional moments unfolded as teams were eliminated, and the high-stakes nature of the tournament brought out passionate responses from both spectators and coaches. A few controversial calls led to heated but memorable exchanges between coaches and umpires, and even a fan ejection reminded everyone just how much this tournament meant.

Parents cheered relentlessly, coaches demanded every ounce of effort, and players poured their hearts into every pitch and swing. Championship Park proved to be an ideal host, providing not just the space, but the atmosphere and stage worthy of a national tournament.

By day’s end, eight teams stood tall, ready to rest up and reload for another full day of games. In Kokomo, softball took center stage — and Championship Park rose to the occasion.
