Western’s Senior Night turned into a night to remember as the Panthers captured the Hoosier Conference Big Division crown with a 35-34 win over Logansport. In the midst of a rebuild, Western delivered big plays, momentum swings, and last-second drama to claim the conference title.
The Panthers struck first when Daniel Ousley broke free for a 64-yard touchdown run, giving Western a 7-0 lead with 10:14 left in the first quarter. Logansport answered quickly as Quincy Jackson powered around the right side for a 3-yard score to tie the game at 7 just minutes later.
Western regained control before halftime on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Levi Shoemaker to Maddox Williams, making it 14-7. Brycen Rucker added a 61-yard touchdown run, and after a Logansport fumble recovery at the 25-yard line, Ousley scored again on a 7-yard run to give the Panthers a 28-7 lead with 2:08 left in the first half.
But Logansport fought back. Jaxsyn Walker scored on a 2-yard run, and Brysen Herr connected with Quincy Jackson on an 11-yard touchdown pass, cutting the halftime deficit to 28-21.
The fourth quarter brought more drama. Levi Shoemaker recovered his own fumble in the end zone to extend Western’s lead to 35-21 with 8:56 remaining. Logansport answered again as Walker broke free for a 54-yard touchdown run, narrowing the score to 35-28 with 4:30 left.
In the final seconds, a defensive pass interference call on Western gave Logansport a first down at the 15-yard line. An illegal shift penalty on Logansport moved the ball to 2nd-and-goal at the 10-yard line with just over 10 seconds remaining. Herr’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Nickenson Hyppolite brought Logansport within one, but a failed two-point conversion left the score 35-34. Western recovered the onside kick to secure the dramatic win.
Next up, Western will hit the road at Twin Lakes, looking to carry the momentum from this Senior Night thriller into their final regular-season game.
