City of Kokomo Announces Waste-Away Day for Residents
The City of Kokomo is giving residents a chance to declutter and make a difference in the community.
According to a recent announcement from the City of Kokomo’s Facebook page last week, the City of Kokomo, in partnership with the Howard County Recycling District, will host its annual “Waste-Away Day” on Friday, April 18 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event also marks the kickoff of the Mayor’s Youth Council’s Community Clean-Up Days.
This opportunity is open to Howard County residents only and organizers ask that participants bring a photo ID with a current address. Please note that commercial businesses are not permitted to participate.

Residents can visit any of the following locations:
Kokomo High School – SW parking lot near Lincoln Road
Western High School – South parking lot near the football field
Eastern High School – Enclosed parking lot on the east side of the football field (off W. Walnut)
Northwestern High School – SW parking lot near the 4-way stop sign
Taylor High School – Parking lot near the tennis courts
What You Can Bring
Roll-off containers will be available for disposing of items such as:
Old furniture
Household junk
Mattresses
Yard waste
A limited number of tires and electronics will also be accepted.
What’s Not Allowed
For safety and environmental reasons, the following items will not be accepted:
Hazardous waste
Paint or chemicals
Medical waste
Batteries
Appliances with unclaimed refrigerants
Propane tanks
Asbestos

Give Back While You Clean Up
If you have items in good, usable condition, there’s another way to give them a second life. Local Goodwill stores will have a truck stationed at the Kokomo site to collect donations, which will then be sorted and placed on the sales floor.
Waste-Away Day is more than just a chance to clear out clutter, it’s an opportunity to come together as a community and make Kokomo cleaner and greener.
