Western held strong in the opening round of the IHSAA football state tournament, defeating West Lafayette 20 to 14 in Russiaville. 💪 The Panthers leaned on a balanced offensive attack and a stout defense to earn their second win of the season over the Red Devils.

Levi Shoemaker opened the scoring with a 14 yard quarterback run, and Brycen Rucker added two touchdown runs to extend the lead. Max Duke made a timely pass breakup on third and eight late in the game, setting up West Lafayette’s fourth down attempt, which fell incomplete.

With the win, the Panthers advance to the semifinal round of Sectional 27 and will travel to Frankton on October 31.
